This photo was taken from north of the West Spanish Peak, looking northwest. State Highway 12 is the road traversing the photo in the lower center. The prominent feature that casts its shadow on the road near the center of the photo is the Devil's Stairstep, one of the more prominent dikes radiating outwards from the West Spanish Peak. To the upper left of the photo is Raspberry Mountain in the Sangre de Cristo's. To the upper right is the northern Sangre de Cristo's (where Kit Carson, the Crestones and Humboldt Peak are) and in the upper middle is the Blanca Massif (where Blanca Peak, Mt. Lindsey, Ellingwood Point and Little Bear are). You can just make out the Dakota Wall running along the foot of Raspberry Mountain and then tending to the northwest at the edge of the foothills. |
