Bright Trail #921

The Bright Trail is about 1.7 miles long (one way) and the Bright Trail Extension adds another 1.8 miles. Use is low to moderate from May through November (open year round) and the trail is rated as Most Difficult.

Trailhead Location: Turn off Highway 7 onto Taylor Mountain Rd. (National Forest System Road 330, also with signs for the Pine Valley Subdivision), on the northeast side of Highway 7 about three miles south of Allenspark. For three-quarters of a mile the road is graveled where it passes through the subdivision. Stay on the main road. After you cross the cattle guard, the road degrades to four-wheel drive for another mile to the Bright Trailhead.

This trail begins on a high, relatively level hilltop and drops down the wooded north-facing slope into the North Saint Vrain Creek Canyon. This is a very steep, though mostly graded trail, with an elevation change of 1,400' in 1.7 miles from trailhead to creek bed.

Dispersed camping is allowed along these trails, and many nice campsites can be found on the south side of the creek and along the trail. Camp at least 200 feet from the creek or trail. Check with the Boulder Ranger District regarding possible campfire restrictions.
