The Crags Trail is a moderate-rated trail about 2.5 miles long on the western slopes of Pikes Peak. The trail sees its heaviest use in summer and early fall.
Access: Take Highway 24 to Divide and go south on State Route 67 for 4 miles. Turn left (east) on Forest Road 383 and go about 2.5 miles to the end of the road. On the east side of Crags Campground is the parking area for Crags Trail. Notes: Crags Campground tends to be full for most of the summer but camping is allowed in undeveloped sites along the trail, just be 300' away from any streams and the trail itself. Pack it in, pack it out. Bring your own water. About 1.5 miles in there is a trail junction. If you go right you'll head up onto Pikes Peak (the route I took when I climbed Pikes), go left and you'll come to the Crags: a grouping of sharp pink granite pinnacles. USGS Maps: Pikes Peak |
