The Dome Rock Trail is in the Wet Mountains east of Bishop's Castle. The 2.1 mile trail is rated as moderate but folks find it harder than that because of the lack of maintenance. It does see some traffic in the summer and fall.
Access: West Trailhead: Take State Route 165 to Bishop's Castle. Just below the castle is Forest Road #382 heading east. Follow that to Davenport Campground and the Dome Rock Trailhead. East Trailhead: Take State Road 78 towards Beulah but stay left towards Pueblo Mountain Park. Turn right (west) on Squirrel Creek Road and go to the trailhead at the end of the road. Notes: This short but almost over-grown and undefined trail rises 1,120' quickly on the eastern slopes of the Wet Mountains. Signage to get here sucks, as does signage along the trail. But the views to the east over Beulah, Hogback Mountain and Signal Mountain and out onto the Plains toward Pueblo are hard to beat. USGS Maps: St. Charles Peak |
