The Goodwin Trail is a moderately difficult, 3.5 mile hike uphill in the eastern reaches of the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness. It sees most use in the summer and fall.
Access: Go south from Westcliffe on State Route 69 to Schoolfield Lane (County Road 140). Go west to the Venable - Comanche Trailhead at the end of the road. Notes: Take the Rainbow Trail north from the trailhead for less than a mile to the junction with the Goodwin Trail. Goodwin goes west, up into the valley below Venable Peak (13,334') and Eureka Mountain (13,507'). The trail ends at the Goodwin Lakes. USGS Maps: Horn Peak |
