This moderately difficult, 9 mile trail in the northern Wet Mountains sees most of its traffic in the summer and fall.
Access: The lower (northern) trailhead is about 4 miles south of Canon City on CR 143. The upper (southern) trailhead is about 9.5 miles south of Canon City on County Road 143 (the Oak Creek Grade) and about 0.8 miles north of the Oak Creek Campground. Notes: This trail winds its way northwest up East Bear Gulch to Curley Peak, then travels through Chute Park along the ridge over to Tanner Peak. From Tanner Peak the trail heads northeast and drops down into the North Cow Creek drainage. The area is full of great rock formations and good views out over the Arkansas Valley. This area is also pretty dry so bring your own water. USGS Maps: Curley Peak, Rockvale |
