North Sterling State Park is centered around the 3,000-surface-acre North Sterling Reservoir. The 6.5 miles of trails along the shoreline and up on the bluffs are enjoyed by fishermen, hikers, mountain bikers and bird watchers (this area is in the Central Flyway and sees millions of migrating birds each year). The lake itself sees lots of power boats and water skiers in season. After boating season comes hunting season. The Elks Campground is north of the dam and is open year-round, as is the Visitor Center with its educational displays and RMNA bookstore. The 2 other campgrounds are summer only. The daily vehicle park pass costs $6, or you can buy the annual Colorado State Parks pass for $60. Basic campsites run $14 per night while electrified campsites run $18 per night. It's not expected that the marina will open for business in 2009. |
