Phantom Canyon Road

Here you can see how some of the granite was gnarled and twisted by heat and pressure that was applied long ago, deep in the ground. You can also see a gravel pile and talus slope formed by the actions of erosional forces in breaking off chunks of the granite. Notice how the bigger chunks fall and roll furthest down the hill. And remember that what we are looking at here is what remains after hundreds of millions of years of erosion slowly breaking down this huge chunk of solid rock into tiny particles of sand... and obviously, the job isn't finished yet.
