Gold Belt Tour

Here's a second tunnel, through an even bigger chunk of solid granite. This one isn't wide enough to stop the vehicle and open doors on both sides. It's also in an area where the downhill side has a pretty good drop while the uphill side isn't totally vertical but the rock is pretty sheer anyway. Still no aspens in sight so I haven't reached 8,000 feet in elevation yet. Notice the cleavage faces and the rock color: there's a good percentage of feldspar in the rock again. The rock looks to be layered (probably a product of feldspar crystallization) without a lot of twisting and bending from heat and pressure. Somewhere around here I'm probably halfway to Victor. |
