Just below this point I crossed over a long, curved wooden trestle bridge before starting up the hill. Here, I'm looking back down Phantom Canyon in the direction that I just came from. These huge rocky valleys may have been carved by glaciers but it was very long ago. Perhaps the erosional impact of all this vegetation has broken down the steep, sheer walls that glaciation tends to leave behind. You can still see there's good water flow in the bottom of the valley but I am starting to get up there in elevation (about 7,400 feet). In that canyon to the right of the road is where Eightmile Creek and its East Fork converge. |
