Bear Lake County is in the southeastern corner of Idaho with Wyoming to the east and Utah to the south. Bear Lake County is named for Bear Lake and contains 971 square miles of land and 78 square miles of water. The county seat is Paris. Bear Lake County was founded in 1893. A lot of the original settlers in Bear Lake County came in from Utah, and thought they were still in Utah. The federal survey of the state line wasn't complete until 1872 and that is what showed that most of these early Mormon settlements were, in fact, in Idaho Territory. |
