Access: Two miles north of Alpine on US Highway 191, turn west and follow Forest Road 249 for 5 miles to Forest Road 276. Turn south and continue on Forest Road 276 for 6 miles to the developed East Fork of the Black River camping area. Elevation: 7,780' Aspen Campground is located in a bend in the canyon where the East Fork of the Black River flows through alders and streamside hardwoods below tall Ponderosa pines. The Black River is a unique riparian zone and the campsites are located back a bit from the water's edge. Access to the river itself is easy and all the campgrounds in this area are very popular among the anglers. Campsites around here tend to be small and only a few are large enough for travel trailers or motor homes. Everything is first come - first served. Season is generally May through October.
