Bear Canyon Lake Campground

Access: About 14 miles northwest of State Highway 260 on Forest Road 89, just off Bear Canyon Lake. Forest Road 89 is accessed from Forest Road 300, which leaves State Highway 260 right across the road from the Rim Visitor Information Station, about 25 miles west of Heber, AZ.

Elevation: 7,600'

Season usually runs from May 1 to mid-October, depending on the weather. This semi-primitive campground has no fees.

Bear Canyon Lake is a very popular fishing and hiking area. The campground is about 1/4 mile from the lake and hiking trails provide the only lake access. Fishing is with artificial lures only. This partially developed campground with very limited amenities is set among the conifers and aspen.

  • Rustic and semi-primitive campsites.
  • Rustic toilet facilities.
  • Trail access to Bear Canyon Lake.

  • Bring your own water - As for trash: You pack it in - You pack it out.
  • Nearest gas, phone, and groceries are 20 miles east at Forest Lakes.
  • The nearest full service community is Heber-Overgaard, AZ, 35 miles East via Hwy 260.
