Gabaldon Campground

Access: Gabaldon Campground is just east of Phelps Trailhead, near Colter Creek on the edge of the Mt. Baldy Wilderness, off State Road 273.

Elevation: 9,400'

Camping season depends on the weather but is generally from June through September.

This campground is located among the spruce trees at the foot of Mt. Baldy Wilderness. The East Baldy Trail #95 connects the campground with the Wilderness. The Wilderness allows hiking, fishing, horseback riding, bird and wildlife watching but no mechanized vehicles (including no mountain bikes).

Facilities:

  • 5 units with horse corrals
  • Tents, trailers and motorhomes up to 16 foot in length
  • Fire rings
  • Vault toilets
  • Nice stream nearby

Other notes:

  • This is a fee-free campground limited to campers with horses or stock animals.
  • Bring your own weed-free feed, and the nearest water is at Big Lake.
  • Remove or scatter your manure.
  • Use the corrals or picket lines to tie your stock, not the trees.
  • There's no utility hookups or dump station, and don't drain your wastewater on the ground.
  • First come - first served. There's no reservations.
  • Restrain or leash your pets.
