Horse Springs Campground

Access: On US Highway 191, go 2 miles north of Alpine, turn west onto Forest Road 249. Follow this gravelled road 5 miles to Forest Road 276. Turn south on FR 276 and go 5 miles to the developed camping area on the East Fork of the Black River.

Elevation: 7,610'

Camping season generally runs from May through October.

Horse Springs Campground includes a group ramada and a picnic area, both of which are relatively handicap-accessible. Group use is limited to a max of 80 people. This campground is very close to the river and is very popular. Everything is available on a first come, first served basis.

Facilities:

  • 27 single unit campsites with fire rings and picnic tables
  • Drinking water is available
  • Vault toilets, handicap-accessible

Other notes:

  • Concessionaire operated but no utilities
  • Pets must be restrained or on a leash
  • Trout are stocked frequently in the East Fork of the Black River.
