Los Burros Campground

Access: Take gravelled Forest Road 224 north from McNary through the White Mountain Apache Reservation for about 7 miles to the signed turn-off for Los Burros Campground. Make the right turn and go about 1/4 to the campground.

Elevation: 7,900'

Season is generally May to October, but may be open year-round - depending on access.

The old barn and corral at this campground are part of an old Forest Service Ranger Station and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. While the Los Burros Trail is scheduled to be re-routed in the future, for now its trailhead is located here. Los Burros Campground is located at the edge of a beautiful meadow with aspens scattered throughout the area.

Facilities:

  • 10 campsites, each with a fire ring/grill and a picnic table
  • There is only one vault toilet (and it is closed in the winter)
  • No trailers longer than 22 feet

Other notes:

  • Pack it in - Pack it out.
  • There's no water source or trash service here.
  • 14-day stay limit in effect.
