Sinkhole Campground

Access: The Sinkhole Campground is about 1/4 mile north of State Highway 260, towards Willow Springs Lake on Forest Road 149. The turn to Forest Road 149 is about 24 miles west of Heber, AZ, or about 1 mile east of the Rim Visitor Information Station.

Elevation: 7,560'

Depending on the weather, season generally runs from mid-May to the end of October.

The campground is within walking distance of Willow Springs Lake (for boating and fishing). There is a non-motorized Wildlife Area nearby offering hiking and mountain biking opportunities. Hikers will also find the General Crook National Recreation Trail about a mile from the campground. In July and August expect heavy rains often, with cool evenings and colder nights.

Facilities:

  • 26 family camping units with tables and campfire grills for tents, trailers and small motorhomes up to 32 feet long.
  • Drinking water, garbage facilities and toilets available
  • Campground hosts on site
  • Paved roads
  • There's a boat ramp located at nearby Willow Springs Lake.

Other notes:

  • There are no utility hookups available.
  • The campground is laid out in a cul-de-sac design with parallel parking only.
  • Pets must be restrained or on a leash.
  • The nearest gas, telephones, and groceries are at Forest Lakes, 6 miles to the east.
  • The nearest full service community is Payson, AZ, 31 miles west via Hwy 260.
  • Family units are on a first come - first served basis.
  • Boat motors on Willow Springs Lake are limited to a max of 8 horsepower.
