Strayhorse Campground

Access: The turn into Strayhorse Campground is 26 miles south of Alpine on US 191.

Elevation: 7,780'

Season generally runs from April through November, depending on the snow depth.

Strayhorse Campground is set among Gambel oaks and large Ponderosa pines about 6 miles below the Mogollon Rim. Two trails start here: Highline Trail #47 follows the lower edge of the Mogollon Rim and Raspberry Trail #35 heads into the Blue Range Primitive Area.

Facilities:

  • 7 family sites for tents, trailers and motor homes up to 16 feet long
  • 8 picnic tables, 7 cooking grills
  • 2 vault toilets, trash cans and drinking water depends on the season
  • Horse corrals on site

Other notes:

  • Good access to several major east-west foot and horseback trails.
