Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest

Access: 2 miles north of Alpine on US 191, turn west on Forest Road 249 and go 5 miles to Forest Road 276. At the intersection, go south on FR 276 for 13 miles to Forest Road 25 at Buffalo Crossing. Follow FR 25 for about 3 miles to Forest Road 68. Follow the signs about 3 miles to the campground. Or, go south on US 191, 13 miles from Alpine to Forest Road 26. Turn west and follow FR 26 to the junction with Forest Road 24. At the junction, turn right and stay on FR 24 until it meets with FR 25. At this intersection, turn left and go about 3 miles to FR 68, where you'll turn and follow the signs to the campground. Elevation: 7,740' Season is usually May through October. West Fork Campground is located where the river emerges from its' forested canyon and meanders across an area of marshy wetlands and broad meadows. The upstream sites in the campground have a deeper forest character while the downstream sites are more grassy and open. A cool, bubbling spring and the CCC-era Adirondacks give a historic feel to the campground. There's plenty of trails and roads nearby, the riparian area makes for good bird watching, and the fishing is excellent. Facilities:
