Woods Canyon Lake

Access: About 5 miles north of State Highway 260 on Forest Road 300, just off Woods Canyon Lake. Forest Road 300 is 25 miles west of Heber, directly across the road from the Rim Visitor Information Station.

Elevation: 7,600'

Season depends on the weather but generally from May 1 to September 30.

Surrounded by Ponderosa pine, Douglas fir and Gambel oak, Woods Canyon Lake is a 52-acre lake offering boating (electric trolling motors only) and lots of good fishing. There is also an interpretive nature trail at the north end of the lake.

Fees are set annually but are based on 1-70 persons and a 25 vehicle limit. Family camping sites are available nearby at Spillway and Aspen Campgrounds.

  • Group campsite will accommodate up to 70 people.
  • Tents, trailers and motorhomes up to 32 feet long.
  • Rocky Point Picnic Area is nearby.
  • Group site includes campfire grills and 9 picnic tables.
  • Vault toilets & garbage facilities.
  • Drinking water is available.
  • Boat ramp and launch on Woods Canyon Lake.
  • RV sanitary dump station near-by.
  • Gravel roads.
  • Campground Hosts are located nearby at Aspen and Spillway Campgrounds.

  • Gas, phone, and groceries are available at Forest Lakes, 10 miles east.
  • Woods Canyon Store has groceries & boat rentals available.
  • It's 35 miles west via Hwy 260 to Payson, AZ, the nearest full service community.
