Bear Canyon Lake Trail #112

This moderate-rated trail sees light traffic, mostly from spring through fall.

Elevation: 7,500'

Access: Coming from the north go south on Forest Road 34 to Forest Road 300, then turn west and go 4 miles to Forest Road 89. Turn north there and drive 3 miles to the Bear Canyon Lake entrance road. Coming from the south take State Road 260 to Forest Road 300. Turn and drive 12 miles along the Mogollon Rim to Forest Road 89. Go 3 miles north on Forest Road 89 to the lake entrance road.

The trail extends from the dam to the head of Bear Canyon Lake along the west bank with 2, 1/4-mile access trails attaching the main trail to the parking areas. The primary vegetation is Ponderosa pines, Douglas firs, quaking aspens and a beautiful marsh-meadow at the head of the lake. The fishing is excellent, as are the views.
