General Crook Connector Trail #140

This 12.5 mile long trail sees light use from spring to early winter. It was built to connect the historic General Crook Trail to the White Mountain Trail System. For hikers it's rated as moderate in difficulty.

The trail starts at the western end of Lewis Canyon Campground. For the first 6 miles it travels west through several scenic canyons, then crosses Forest Road 32 and enters the Heber Ranger District. From there, it's 6.5 miles to the General Crook Trail, a historic trail that connects Cottonwood Wash on the Mogollon Rim to Fort Verde in central Arizona.

Elevation: 6,370' to 6,900'

Access: To start at the end of the connector, go to the trailhead kiosk at the west end of Lewis Canyon Campground. Head west on that trail past the intersection with the Juniper Ridge Trail. To access the connector midway, take State Road 260 for 2 miles past the Pinedale turnoff, then turn left on Forest Road 132. About 3.5 miles in start looking for blue diamonds on either side of the road: these mark the connector trail.
