Drew Canyon Trail #291

This difficult, steep trail is about 1 mile long and sees moderate use in the spring through fall seasons.

Elevation: 6,500' to 7,600'

Built before 1909, this trail starts at the General Crook Trail, crosses the Hole-in-the-Ground gravel pit road and then drops off the edge of the Mogollon Rim. From the Crook Trail to the edge of the Rim, the trail is blazed and flagged through the firs and Ponderosa's so it's not hard to follow but going down the Rim itself, it winds through the junipers, pinons, manzanitas, buckbrush and beargrass. This is a great trail to get a real picture of the Mogollon Rim because of the great views offered all along the way. But, this trail is steep in spots so wear good hiking shoes and carry plenty of water.

Access: Take Forest Road 34 south to Forest Road 300, turn west and go about 3.4 miles to Forest Road 9350, then go south 1 mile. Or, from the south, take State Road 260 to Forest Road 300, turn onto Forest Road 300 and go 5.4 miles to Forest Road 9350. Turn and go south on FR 9350 for 1 mile.
