Pole Knoll Recreation Area

There are trails all through this recreation area that are rated as easy to moderate. The area sees moderate use all year as most of the trails are good for cross country skiing in season. The area is closed to motorized vehicles, including snowmobiles. There are pamphlets describing the various trails available at the sign-in registers at both of the trailheads.

The main trail is located just off State Road 260 and offers parking for up to 20 vehicles, with toilets and an information board. The second trailhead is north of Greer off State Road 373. There is parking at this trailhead for 6-8 vehicles, with an information board but no toilets. There is no camping allowed at either trailhead.

The area offers great views of the White Mountains with Sunrise Peak, Sunrise Lake and Mt. Baldy off to the southwest, the Little Colorado Basin to the east and Greens Peak to the north.

Elevation: 9,000' at the trailheads

Access: South of State Road 260, about 14 miles west of Springerville - Eagar.
