These connector trails run between the Timber Mesa Trail and the Panorama Trail. The Flume Connector is 2.5 miles long while the Sawmill Connector is 4.5 miles long. Both are rated as moderate and see light traffic from spring to early winter. The Sawmill leaves the Panorama Trail near Porter Tank and meets the Timer Mesa Trail north of Frost Canyon. The Flume connector splits from the Panorama Trail near the trailhead, skirts the bottom of Porter Mountain and meets up with the Timber Mesa Trail south of Frost Canyon. Both connector trails follow and cross many existing roads so pay attention, it's easy to lose the trail in here. Elevation: 6,800' to 6,900' Access: At the northern end of the Timber Mesa Trail, where the trail hits the Chimneys Road, the Flume Connector veers right and stays on top of the mesa. On the Panorama Trail, the Flume heads west and up the ridge from Porter Tank. The Sawmill leaves the Timber Mesa Trail about 1/4 mile past the edge of the mesa (on top). From the Panorama Trail, the Sawmill heads left several hundred yards north of the trailhead at Forest Road 206. |
