This 5-mile trail around Woods Canyon Lake is rated as moderate and sees moderate use through the spring, summer and fall. The trail is well marked and wanders through the trees and along the shoreline. Start by crossing the dam near Spillway Campground and then follow the water's edge. Eventually, the trail joins the Rocky Point Nature Trail. Wear good shoes, takes lots of drinking water, and watch for the beavers and many species of birds along the way. Elevation: 7,500' Access: Go south from Winslow on Forest Road 34 to Forest Road 300. Turn east and go 6 miles to Woods Canyon Lake entrance. Or, from the south, turn north off State Road 260 onto Forest Road 300, go 3 miles and turn onto the Woods Canyon Lake entrance road. USGS Maps: Woods Canyon |
