Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest

This easy, 1/2 mile long trail sees heavy use in the spring, summer and fall. It's a self-guided nature trail that takes 1-2 hours to complete. The trail begins and ends at the Rocky Point Picnic Area and wanders through big trees and along the lake shore. There are signs along the way identifying the vegetation and landmarks, including a sinkhole that can be seen from the trail. Elevation: 7,500' Access: About 26 miles west of Heber on State Road 260, turn north onto Forest Road 300. Go 3 miles to the Woods Canyon Lake entrance, then follow the signs to Rocky Point. Or, from Winslow, follow Forest Road 34 south to Forest Road 300. Turn left (east) and go 6 miles to Woods Canyon Lake entrance. Follow the signs to Rocky Point. USGS Maps: Woods Canyon |
