Questa Ranger District
This trail is moderatey used in the spring, summer and fall by hikers and horseback riders. To get here take State Road 522 north from the old blinking light (north of Taos) to Forest Road 9, across from the community of Lama. Turn left and go about 4 miles to the Cebolla Mesa Campground. Trail 9 begins at the campground. Forest Road 9 is surfaced with native materials and tends to be extremely muddy during wet periods. The trail starts at 7,300 feet and drops to 6,300 feet in 1.3 miles as it descends steep switchbacks down the canyon walls of the Rio Grande. Then the trail crosses several benches with large basalt boulders before ending at a log bridge across the mouth of the Red River to La Junta, where it connects with the La Junta and Little Arsenic Trails in the Wild & Scenic River Corridor.
