Canjilon Ranger District
This trailhead is located in the Echo Canyon Amphitheater parking area, right off of US Highway 84 about 47 miles north of Espanola, 43 miles south of Chama. The 1/2 mile trail from the parking lot to Echo Canyon is paved and ascends at a relatively easy pace. The last part of the trail has a stairway ascending into the bowl of the Echo Canyon Amphitheater. After you've yelled enough to truly enjoy the natural echo effect, there's another trail that leads further back to a smaller echo area. This second trail is moderately level, passing over several sandstone benches along the way. Stay on the trail and off the rocks because these rocks are a favored natural habitat for snakes. Climbing on the surrounding rocks is discouraged. Camping or hiking within the amphitheater is prohibited. No motorized vehicles are allowed on the trail. Rating: Easy to moderate |
