To get to this trail, travel east from Questa .2 miles on State Road 38 to the Cabresto Road (State Road 563). 6 miles up the Cabresto Road you'll come to Forest Road 134A, turn and go another 2 miles up this primitive road to Cabresto Lake. Trail 82 begins at the lake.

The trail goes around the edge of Cabresto Lake before reaching Lake Fork Creek, which it then follows for almost 5 miles into Latir Peak Wilderness. Mid-way on the trail is the junction with Bull Creek Trail 85. Cross the bridge and keep on north along Lake Fork Creek through aspen groves, stands of mixed conifers and several open meadows to the next trail junction: Heart Lake and Baldy Mountain. Turn left and you'll be on Heart Lake Trail 115 for just a short distance before you reach Heart Lake. If you'd like to camp here, be at least 300 feet from the water's edge. There's a mile of switchbacks on the trail west of Heart Lake that will eventually take you up into a series of beautiful alpine mesas and the heart of the Latir Peaks region. If you'd turned right and gone north at that trail junction (instead of going to Heart Lake), you'd come to Baldy Cabin and then Baldy Mountain. Camping is permitted almost anywhere but motorized vehicles and equipment are not allowed in here.
