Questa Ranger District
This trail has two signed trailheads. One trailhead is located on Forest Road 1950, about 3 miles south of Comanche Point. The other trailhead is near the Valle Vidal boundary, north of Comanche Point on Forest Road 1900. In the winter and spring, check with the district office because it's usually hard to get anywhere past Comanche Point when there's snow on the ground. Little Costilla Peak is about 10 miles from either trailhead but a quad map would be very helpful: the trails follow old logging roads that frequently fork. The views of Big Costilla Peak and the Latirs are spectacular. Rating: Novice to intermediate with 1,600 feet in elevation gain USGS Quad: Ash Mountain |
