Green Creek Trail #1412

Green Creek Trail is 6.8 miles of varying difficulty, but generally getting harder as you go up the hill to the Continental Divide. It sees most of its use in the summer and fall.

Elevations:

• Trail beginning: 9,000'
• High Point: 11,505'
• Trail ending: 11,505'

Access: 2 miles west of Poncha Springs on US 50 go south on County Road 220. About 1.75 miles down is the junction with County Road 221. Turn southwest on CR 221 and go about 2 more miles to the trailhead. There is a parking area here and the trail heads up the hill along Green Creek.

Notes: The trail follows Green Creek to its source just below the Continental Divide, then rises up the ridge to connect with the Continental Divide Trail. There are several picturesque beaver ponds along the way and a small shelterhouse about 6 miles in from the trailhead. There's lots of good campsites but set up camp at least 300' from the stream and the trail. Make sure your fire is dead out and pack it in, pack it out rules.
