Indian Creek Trail #1300

This 14 mile trail is rated as moderately difficult and sees most of its traffic in the summer and fall.

    Elevations:
  • Trail beginning: 8,600'
  • High Point: 10,400'
  • Trail ending: 10,400'

Access: From La Veta, go south on Highway 12 about 1.5 miles to County Road 421 (sign for Sulphur Springs). Turn and go west 7 miles to the end of the road. The south trailhead is at the back of Bear Lake Campground (5 miles west of Highway 12 in the Cuchara River Recreation Area - parking at Bear Lake will cost you $4 for day use).

Notes: This trail is part of a network of trails along the eastern edge of the Sangre de Cristo's between La Veta and Cuchara. The Indian Creek Trail rises to the top of the ridge of the Sangre de Cristo's on the west side of Raspberry Mountain, then drops back down into the valley at the very foot of that last rise up to the backbone of the range.
