San Isabel National Forest
Music Pass Trail #1337

This is an easy, 1.2-mile trail leading into the Music Pass area of Sangre de Cristo Wilderness Area. Once you cross over Music Pass, the trail drops down into the Sand Creek drainage. This trail sees most of its traffic in the summer and fall.

    Elevations:
  • Trail beginning: 10,370'
  • High Point: 11,400'
  • Trail ending: 11,400'

Access: Go south of Westcliffe on State Route 69 for 4.5 miles to County Road 119. Turn west (right) onto CR 119 and follow it past Grape Creek Trailhead to Music Pass Trailhead. The last 2.5 miles are rough and may require 4WD.

Notes: This easy trail climbs into the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness (this area technically is in the Rio Grande National Forest but is administered by the Great Sand Dunes National Park). This is the main route to access the Sand Creek drainage and several good 13er climbs (Pico Aislado, Milwaukee Peak, Tijeras Peak, Music Mountain, etc.) The area also has several excellent fishing lakes.
