San Isabel National Forest
Silver Creek Trail #1407

This moderately difficult, 3.9 mile trail rises up to the Continental Divide in the southern Sawatch Mountains, south of Mt. Ouray. This trail is very popular with mountain bikers and sees most traffic in the summer and fall.

    Elevations:
  • Trail beginning: 9,700'
  • High Point: 11,229'
  • Trail ending: 11,229'

Access: Go south from Poncha Springs for about 4.5 miles to County Road 200. Turn west and go 2 miles to FR 201. Turn south (left) and go about 5 miles down FR 201 (past the private property in the Silver Lakes area) to the intersection of FR 201 and FR 869.2. This stretch beyond the private property requires 4WD. The Silver Creek Trail rises west from the junction of FR 201 and FR 869.2.

Notes: The Silver Creek Trail follows Silver Creek up to the Continental Divide, where it ends at the Continental Divide Trail - Colorado Trail. This area is part of the Kerber Mining District and some of the old mines in the area are still private property and may even be working, so stay on the trail when you are close to one of these things.
