Waterdog Lakes Trail #1417

This easy 2 mile trail leads into a couple of fishing lakes below the Continental Divide near Monarch Pass. The trail sees most use in the summer and fall.

Elevations:

• Trail beginning: 10,200'
• High Point: 11,475'
• Trail ending: 11,475'

Access: Head west on US 50 from Poncha Springs. Go about 13.5 miles toward Monarch Pass. At highway speed, the signage sucks, but there is a small parking area on the left side of the road while the trail itself is on the right side of the road.

Notes: The lower lake is a bit small to support any number of large fish but the upper lake is excellent for brookies. And these lakes are right below the Continental Divide on the eastern side. The views and wildflowers are prolific here.
