Camino Real Ranger District
The trailhead is on the west side of State Road 518, just south of US Hill, south of Taos. Parking is available on the east side of the road near the trailhead. The trail follows Forest Road 442 about 6 miles to Gallegos Peak. There's lots of great views of Wheeler Peak country along the way and Gallegos Peak gives some great shots of Jicarita Peak and the northern Pecos Wilderness.
