Luna Community College is based just outside of Las Vegas but the school also runs satellite campuses all over northeastern New Mexico. The main campus is located on what used to be the Maximiliano Luna National Guard Armory. The National Guard units that were stationed here were sent to the Philipines at the beginning of World War II. While they fought well, the survivors were forced to surrender to the Japanese and participated in the infamous "Bataan Death March." By the time the war was over and the men were freed, more than half of them had died at the hands of their Japanese captors. |
