RESTRICTIONS:

  • No dog training allowed on Lower Robideau and Hamilton tracts during upland migratory bird or game seasons.
  • Lower Robideau and Hamilton tracts closed March 15 to July 31.
  • Field trials may be authorized February, March, August, and September only.
  • Lower Robideau limited to youth mentor hunting, only 1 mentor per youth.

Horsethief Canyon

From the Fruita exit on the I-70, go south 1 mile on Highway 340 to property sign, take access road for 4 miles to property.
HUNTING: Deer, coyote, small game, pheasant, dove, waterfowl
FISHING: Warmwater
RECREATION: Wildlife observation
RESTRICTIONS:

  • No turkey hunting allowed.
  • No fires or camping allowed.
  • Hunting with shotguns, hand-held bows or muzzleloaders only.
  • No fishing allowed in rearing ponds and as posted to protect endangered fish species.
  • Waterfowl hunting on Saturdays restricted to youth mentor hunting.
  • Closed 9 PM to 5 AM except for fishing.
  • No quail hunting allowed.
  • Specially designated hunting blinds available to hunt waterfowl on west end of property. Reserved but first come, first served.
  • Permits not required for waterfowl hunting east of pump station.
  • No waterfowl hunting Wednesday through Friday except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas and New Year's Day.
  • Habitat stamp not required.

Jerry Creek Reservoir

RESTRICTIONS:
  • Artificial flies and lures only.
  • All fish must be returned to the water immediately.
  • Lakes closed when iced over.
  • Float tubes with chest-high waders allowed.
  • No camping, fires, hunting, firearms, ice fishing, motorized or non-motorized vehicles, pets, domestic animals, floating, boating, swimming or wading allowed.

Loma Boat Launch

From exit #15 on the I-70, go 1.2 miles south on frontage road, then turn southeast and go 1/2 mile to Colorado River.
RECREATION: Wildlife observation, boating
FACILITIES: Rest rooms, boat ramp
RESTRICTIONS:

  • Parking in designated areas only.
  • No discharging firearms, camping or launching or using jet skis allowed.

Mogensen Ponds

RESTRICTIONS:
  • No hunting allowed except waterfowl hunting from designated blinds.
  • No camping, fires, motorized or non-motorized vehicles, domestic animals or pets allowed.
  • Firearms allowed for waterfowl hunting only.

Orchard Mesa

RESTRICTIONS:
  • Access only from parking area on C Road between Roads 30 & 31.
  • No horses, fires or camping allowed.
  • No vehicles allowed beyond parking area.
  • Closed March 15 to July 14 to protect nesting migratory birds.
  • Waterfowl hunters must use designated zones and blinds.
  • No other small game hunting allowed.
  • Deer hunting by special permit only. Call 970-255-6100 for information.
  • Only hunting with bows or shotguns using shotshells allowed.
  • Dogs only allowed as hunting aids.

Plateau Creek

From exit #49 on the I-70, go 8 miles east on Highway 65 to Highway 330, then turn left to Sunnyside Road and go 1/8 mile north.

FACILITIES: Rifle range
RESTRICTIONS: No vehicles allowed from December 1 to August 1.

  • Mandatory check in and out station.
  • Waterfowl hunters must hunt from designated blinds and zones.
  • Hunting restricted to bows and shotguns with shotshells only.
  • No turkey hunting allowed.
  • Dogs allowed only as aids in hunting.

Go 2 miles west of Grand Junction on US 6 & 50, turn south on River Road and go 1/2 mile, then turn south on gravel road.

RECREATION: Canoeing, rafting, interpretive program, wildlife observation
RESTRICTIONS:

  • No fishing allowed from October 1 to end of February.
  • No camping, hunting, fires, dogs or trapping allowed.
  • Discharging of firearms and bows prohibited. Bows allowed for bowfishing only.
  • Closed 1/2 hour after sunset to 1/2 hour before sunrise.
