In the early 1900's, a family of Scottish immigrants settled in this canyon. The 1st generation of Stewarts were mostly sheepherders and surveyors, but the 2nd generation saw the promise of a ski resort on the slopes below the summit of Mt. Timpanogos. The Stewarts opened a small, local ski area named "Timphaven" in the 1950's with a rope tow, a chair lift and a burger joint/snack bar.

Robert Redford bought Timphaven with 6,000 acres of the surrounding wilderness from the Stewarts in 1969 and founded Sundance Resort as a four season resort. Rustic and intimate by design, the gorgeous runs, great scenery and no crowds make Sundance Resort one of the best in the West. Sundance's rustic but elegant lodging accommodations offer guests many choices: studios, Sundance suites and Mountain suites, with full kitchen, living and dining areas. Luxury mountain homes are available, too. Sundance also sports a Native American-inspired spa which blends totally organic products with ancient traditions and the powerful touch of human healers.

Today, Sundance Resort has grown into a world-class arts and conservation community and a world-renowned recreational community built by and for people who appreciate the beauty of nature and feel a responsibility to preserve it. Sundance Resort is 45 minutes from Park City, 55 minutes from the Salt Lake City International Airport.
