The Baker Canyon Wilderness Study Area is in Cochise County, about 30 miles east of Douglas. As part of a wildlife corridor that connects ecosystems in Mexico, Arizona and New Mexico, this particular area is very rich in wildlife. You'll find coatimundi, Coues' white-tailed deer, mountain lion, bobcat, several species of bats, wild turkey, trogons and unusual species of hummingbirds here. Among the plant species on the 4,812-acre property are Mexican pinyon, Chihuahua pine and Arizona rosewood (a potentially threatened and endangered species). Baker Canyon Wilderness Study Area is a federally-owned property but it is surrounded by private land and there is presently no public access.
