Gunnison County, Colorado

Cities & Towns:
Crested Butte
Gunnison

Mount Crested Butte

Gunnison County is located in the mountainous area of central Colorado. Absolutely beautiful countryside with a shortage of people (just the way I like it). Lots of BLM and National Forest with some great skiing at Mt. Crested Butte. Just be careful of the traffic on US Highway 50 in mid-summer. And if you want a hotel room in Gunnison in the summertime, book it well in advance.

Gunnison County was named in honor of Captain John W. Gunnison who surveyed through the area in 1853, looking for a route for a transcontinental railroad. Gunnison County contains 3,239 square miles of land and 21 square miles of water. The county seat is Gunnison.
