Historic Union Pacific Rail Trail State Park

The Historic Union Pacific Rail Trail is a 28-mile non-motorized trail that starts or ends in Park City (depending on which way you go). The other end is at Echo Reservoir. In between, the route parallels Interstate 80 across Silver Creek Canyon, through the old mining towns of Wanship and Coalville, then beside the Webber River up to Echo Reservoir. The primary activities in this singular state park are hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, jogging, horseback riding, wildlife watching and just plain walking. The route traverses some great countryside and cultural history. This was a railroad line that saw use almost until it was abandoned by the Union Pacific Railroad in 1989. At that point, the Union Pacific Railroad, the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation and a company that does railroad salvage got together and turned the abandoned railroad corridor into a non-motorized route. The Historic Union Pacific Rail Trail State Park was completed and opened to the public in 1992.

The historic rail trail route is open 24/7/365 with no fees, no camping, no amenities.
