Roxborough State Park is a 3,339-acre Colorado Natural Area and National Natural Landmark in Douglas County, about 15 miles south of Littleton. As such, no mountain bikes, camping, horses or pets are allowed in the park. Roxborough State Park preserves and protects some incredible red rock formations, including the Fountain Formation, the Morrison Formation, the Lykins Formation, the Lyons Formation and the Dakota Hogback (see Dakota Wall for other examples of this ancient sandstone formation). There are several trails leading out from the Visitor Center that can take you through many of the spectacular rock formations and to any of several overlooks scattered through the park. The Fountain Valley Overlook is just 100 yards from the Visitor Center and allows you to get an overview of the beauty and splendor of this property. The daily vehicle use pass costs $6, or you can buy an annual Colorado State Parks pass for $60. The auditorium in the Visitor Center can be rented for $100 per day and there are Special Use Permits available for $20 (for weddings and such). |
