Rocky Flats is the site of a former Department of Energy nuclear materials processing plant. After many years of radioactive contamination of the site, the primary defense contractors were fired, removed from the property and successfully sued in court for their misdeeds. During this time, the property underwent extensive cleanup and damage mitigation until, at this point, it has been certified as radioactive-free, with its highest and best use being a National Wildlife Refuge. However, there is no public access to the property yet. |
